Join us for Children’s Church!

Children’s Church welcomes children of all ages and abilities to join, both as visitors and as regular members of the church community. Some of our present regular members attend on alternate weeks when their siblings are singing in the choir. We leave the main 11am Sung Eucharist on a Sunday during the second hymn (the one before the gospel reading), and re-join the congregation in time for a blessing during the distribution of communion.

Children's Church meets in a room called Matthew, which is entered through the door in the South Aisle opposite the main entrance door. If you are unsure where it is, you can ask any of the Deputy Wardens who gave you your service booklet at the door. The leaders usually meet the children by the door to Matthew, but during the building works a leader will be near the gate in the scaffolding by the main door. All leaders work in pairs and are DBS checked.

For babies and toddlers, you will find a toys and space to play, look at a range of picture books, colour in pictures or draw their own. A parent/grandparent/carer is welcome to accompany children under four or on their first visit. Activities for preschool and school aged children are based on the readings used in the main service. We share a Bible story, songs and prayers, but instead of a sermon we make related crafts.

Recently the children created two banners which were displayed in the church for harvest festival (image below), and made bread which they took home to bake. We regularly make cards and small gifts for parents, and we will shortly be preparing a Nativity display in time for Christmas, come and join us to find out more!

Children and families are invited to all the cathedral's Christmas services, but the Christingle service and the Christmas Craft Morning are especially focussed on them.
