Who are the Friends?
They are people from all over the Diocese and beyond, not necessarily worshipping at the Cathedral regularly, but who are committed to supporting it’s work by: • maintaining the Cathedral as a place of beauty and a source of inspiration to all and of which the people of the Diocese can be proud • giving financial support to the Cathedrals activities • associating themselves with the Cathedral and coming to enjoy a variety of events in the course of the year The Friends were founded in 1928. Members receive newsletters during the year, are welcome to attend the annual meeting, and the other events organised either by the Friends or held in the Cathedral Over the years, the Friends have financed several specific major projects to beautify the Cathedral including the John Donald designed cross at the East End, the Peter Eugene Ball cross and candlesticks, altar cloths and light fittings; they have funded open air concerts in the Churchyard, publicity brochures and photographs of the Burne-Jones windows and cassocks, surplices and other donations in support of the Cathedral’s choir.
