Who are the Friends?

They are people from all over the Diocese and beyond, not necessarily worshipping at the Cathedral regularly, but who are committed to supporting it’s work by:
• maintaining the Cathedral as a place of beauty and a source of inspiration to all and of which the people of the Diocese can be proud
• giving financial support to the Cathedrals activities
• associating themselves with the Cathedral and coming to enjoy a variety of events in the course of the year
The Friends were founded in 1928. Members receive newsletters during the year, are welcome to attend the annual meeting, and the other events organised either by the Friends or held in the Cathedral
Over the years, the Friends have financed several specific major projects to beautify the Cathedral including the John Donald designed cross at the East End, the Peter Eugene Ball cross and candlesticks, altar cloths and light fittings; they have funded open air concerts in the Churchyard, publicity brochures and photographs of the Burne-Jones windows and cassocks, surplices and other donations in support of the Cathedral’s choir.

How can You help?

By becoming a Friend, you can help provide an indispensable personal link between the Cathedral and persons and organisations who take an interest in our work.
The cost is small.
The suggested minimum subscriptions are:
Individual membership £8 per year
10 years £65
Senior Citizen membership £4 per year
10 years £30
Full-time Student membership £4 per year
Corporate membership – PCC
or other Christian Group £15 per year
Industrial, Commercial Organisation membership £50 per year

Corporate members comprise, in the main, Companies and Church PCCs who wish to support the mother church of the Diocese
Have you considered funding a project for the general benefit of the Cathedral or in some specific area of interest, perhaps in memory of a loved one?
You may care to think about remembering the Friends in your will - legacies and bequests are welcomed and can be arranged by your solicitor.
